Best Practices on Diamond Bonding
Diamond is among the hardest known materials on earth, various industries use it for cutting tools. Consequently, the adhesive bonds must be high strength, vibration resistant, chemical resistant, and temperature resistant.
Featured Diamond Bonder: Permabond ES550
- Excellent adhesive strength
- Excellent resistance to vibration
- Easy to use – no mixing required
- High shear and peel strength
- Good impact strength
- High-temperature resistance
- Good resistance to chemicals
PERMABOND® ES550 is a single-part diamond bonding adhesive. It is an epoxy paste that is slump-resistant (does not flow) during cure. This toughened adhesive has maximum impact resistance, as well as excellent peel and shear strength. ES550 is ideal for bonding a wide range of materials, including metals, ferrites, ceramics, composites, and diamonds.
Directions for Use
- Apply the adhesive to one surface to avoid entrapping air.
- Assemble / join your parts, then apply enough pressure to ensure the adhesive spreads across to cover the entire area that needs to be bonded.
- If possobie, use a jig or clamp to keep the parts still during cure time.
- Do not disturb the joint until the adhesive is fully cured.
- Cure with heat; the following are some cure schedule options:
- 266°F (130° C) for 75 minutes
- 300°F (150°C) for 60 minutes
- 338°F (170°C) for 40 minutes
